This explains what personal data MatchMyMarketer collects, why we collect it, who we share it with and what rights you have. It's written to describe how the platform actually works, rather than in generic legal language.

Who is responsible for your data

MatchMyMarketer is operated by Danielle Newstead in the United Kingdom, and is the data controller for the personal data described here. For any data question, email matchmymarketer@gmail.com.

What we collect

Account information — name, email address, password (stored hashed by our authentication provider), account type (business or marketer), sign-in history, and where you signed in with Google, the basic profile details Google shares with us.

Business information — company name, location, phone number where you provide it, and the content of the briefs you post: goals, services needed, industry, budget information, timescales and any notes you add.

Marketer profile information — display name, headline, bio, photo, services, industries, years of experience, location, rates, website and social links, portfolio and case study examples, starter offers and community opt-in preference.

Messages — the content of messages exchanged between businesses and marketers through the platform, and related notification records.

Subscription and payment information — for marketers, subscription status, trial dates, renewal dates and payment references. Card payments are processed by Stripe; we never see or store your full card number.

Usage and technical information — pages and steps used on the site, a first-party visitor identifier stored in your browser, referral and campaign information (such as UTM tags and referring website), device/browser information, and error reports when something goes wrong.

Emails — records of the emails we send you, whether they were delivered, and your unsubscribe preferences.

Why we use it, and our lawful basis

  • To run your account and the matching service — necessary to perform our contract with you (our terms of use).
  • To match briefs to relevant marketers and show your profile or brief to the other side of a match — necessary for the contract and our legitimate interest in operating a matching platform.
  • To enable messaging and introductions between businesses and marketers — necessary for the contract.
  • To take subscription payments from marketers — necessary for the contract.
  • To send service emails (verification, password resets, match notifications, message alerts, subscription notices) — necessary for the contract.
  • To send optional updates, tips and campaign emails — our legitimate interest in keeping members informed, or your consent where required. Every such email has an unsubscribe link.
  • To improve and troubleshoot the platform, including analytics and error logging — our legitimate interest in a reliable, useful service, and your consent for non-essential cookies and advertising measurement.
  • To keep the platform safe — investigating reports, preventing spam, fraud and misuse — our legitimate interest in protecting users.
  • To meet legal and accounting obligations — legal obligation.

How information is shared between businesses and marketers

  • When a business posts a brief, the brief details are shown to marketers matched to it so they can decide whether they're a fit. Matched marketers can see the business name and brief content.
  • Marketer profiles, including photo, bio, services, industries, location, rates, links and starter offers, are shown publicly on the site and to matched businesses.
  • Contact details are shared when you choose to share them in messages, or where a brief or profile includes them.
  • Once you're connected, any further use of that information is subject to our terms and to data protection law — see our Acceptable Use rules.
Please don't put sensitive personal information into briefs, profiles or messages. Share only what's needed to discuss and carry out the work.

Service providers we use

We use a small number of trusted providers to run the platform. They process data on our instructions:

  • Lovable Cloud (Supabase) — database, authentication, file storage and hosting of platform data.
  • Stripe — subscription payments for marketers.
  • Resend (via our notify.matchmymarketer.com sending domain) — delivery of platform emails.
  • Google Ads — advertising measurement, only where you have accepted advertising cookies.
  • Trustpilot — where you're invited to leave a review after a genuine interaction; invitations are sent to the email address on your account.

Some providers may process data outside the UK. Where that happens we rely on the safeguards those providers put in place, such as UK-approved standard contractual clauses or adequacy decisions. We don't sell your personal data.

Cookies and analytics

We use essential cookies and browser storage to keep you signed in and remember your cookie choice. With your consent we also use first-party analytics and Google Ads measurement. Full detail, and how to change your mind, is in our Cookie Policy.

How long we keep it

  • Account, profile and brief data — for as long as your account is open, and for up to 12 months after closure so we can handle queries, disputes and misuse reports, unless you ask us to delete it sooner.
  • Messages — kept while both accounts exist so conversation history stays available, then removed in line with account deletion.
  • Payment and subscription records — kept for six years to meet UK tax and accounting requirements.
  • Email delivery logs and unsubscribe records — unsubscribe records are kept indefinitely so we don't email you again; delivery logs are kept for up to 12 months.
  • Analytics and error logs — generally up to 24 months.

Security

Data is held in access-controlled databases with row-level security rules so users can only reach the records they're entitled to. Passwords are hashed by our authentication provider, traffic is encrypted in transit, and administrative access is limited. No online service can be completely secure, so please use a strong, unique password and tell us straight away if you think your account has been accessed.

Your rights

Under UK data protection law you have the right to:

  • Ask for a copy of the personal data we hold about you.
  • Have inaccurate data corrected — most profile and brief data you can edit yourself.
  • Ask us to delete your data, and to close your account.
  • Object to, or ask us to restrict, certain processing, including direct marketing.
  • Ask for your data in a portable format.
  • Withdraw consent where we rely on it, such as cookies or optional emails.

Email matchmymarketer@gmail.com and we'll respond within one month. If you're unhappy with how we've handled your data, you can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk.

Children

MatchMyMarketer is for business use and is not intended for anyone under 18. We don't knowingly collect data from children.
